The string of bananas or fishhook Senecio; either way, Senecio radicans is aptly named for its braid-like hanging tendrils of small, curved fleshy leaves. Grow it in a bright spot as a houseplant where it can cascade down a bookshelf or dangle from a hanging macrame planter.
Be sure the container has a drainage hole in the bottom, as a string of bananas is likely to rot in soggy, poorly-drained soil. Keep the plant lightly moist, but never soggy, until healthy new growth indicates that the cutting has successfully rooted.
The String of Bananas plant is a fast-growing plant that is easier to care for. It has banana-shaped leaves and grows long to hang down from the pot. This plant will come in a 1-inch net pot. Please do not remove the plant from the net pot and plant it directly in a larger pot. Do not overwater the plant.
